This year's first of the giant epis to bloom was "Barbra." Stretching bigger than your open hand Barbra's colors reminds me of the wonderful push-ups we enjoyed as kids. Frozen pale orange ice cream delights that would leave your lips luscious pink.
Last year we named an epi after Andrew's mom and this year Phyllis is so honored by what some call the Epi Clown but we know it as "Phyllis Fickle" so named because it can't seem to make up its mind which shade of pink to show off the most.
Lemon Meringue Pie certainly looks good enough to eat.
One of our most prolific bloomers, "Phou Pi" opened her first flower on May 5. Named after Andrew's mom, Phou Pi may look sweet and delicate but she is tough and resilient and you can count on her blooms lasting 3, 4 or 5 days. But be sure to call her every couple of days... she worries.
"Morningstar" She was in such a pretty pot we brought her in to bloom. The full bloom took neary 10 hours.
The moment of full bloom is like a burst of flame from the garden fireplace... without all the smoke of course.
"Broken Yolk" She is one of our newest epi's and could only muster a single flower this year. But next year, if Trump or the Coronavirus don't take us out, we expect a flurry of blooms.
