Barking Mad Left

Here on pandemic quarantine day 341, it has occurred to me that listening to the news on TV, radio, mobile or most any device may be more harmful to us than the COVID-19 beast itself.
Besides all the fake news and conspiracy theories endlessly being tossed about... pandemic information that everyone wants to give us often leaves us bewildered with more questions. Channel 5 endorses double masking while channel 7 says only N95 masks have any chance of protecting you and others. Super-conservative outlets think Jewish Lasers from space can kill the virus (apparently by forest fire) while others tell you for best results you must soap your left hand first then lather your right. And everyone has an 'opinion' on the best way to get vaccinated... most just don't hold true. While I applaud the constitutional vague notion of free speech there have to be definable boundaries and in America these days, with so much instant communication, responsible boundaries would be impossible to get consensus on let alone to teach or enforce. So instead we are seeing media giants like Facebook and Twitter using their power of censorship to 'protect us' from the totally irresponsible while we remain left to sort out the bullshit from the balderdash, the hoax from the hyperbole. It's really not that different than it was 50 years ago, there's just so much more of it today and it's instantly in your face. Back then it was much easier to ignore... not so much today. After all, news outlets only make money when you watch or listen to their programming so of course they will say whatever it takes to get your attention. David Muir on ABC is very compelling, the new NBCLX platform has the youth market and WGN's News Nation claims to be the most opinion neutral of them all. But they are all more hype and advertising than anything else so for my money the best option is to just stop listening to the news on any regular basis. OK - I will peak every once and a while just so my friends won' think I live under a rock but that's it. At some point I expect someone will call me or show up at my door telling me what I need to know or to do. Or better yet, as I have done most of my life, I will continue to seek out the information I require which will never include earthquake death tolls in Bolivia or Kardashian lore.

Barking at the moon may seem like a fun thing to do but mark my words... people will point at you.
